Kua O Ka Lā Public Charter school – ‘Aelike Mutual Agreement School Wide Behavior Expectations
The purpose of the School-wide Behavior Expectations at Kua O Ka Lā is to provide a safe, positive, and orderly environment conducive to academic, social, and character development for all participants. To accomplish this, students, makua, and staff are expected to:
Aloha kekahi I kekahi, Have love for one another
Show respect for yourselves, each other, and all property. Solve conflicts and
problems in a constructive manner.
Mālama I kou kuleana, Take care of your responsibilities
Be responsible for your behavior, attend school every day, bring all needed
materials, remain on school grounds at all times, and be actively involved and
committed to learning.
Kōkua aku Kōkua mai, Give help, receive help
Cooperate with others, put forth your best effort, care for each other, help without
being asked, help others succeed, and support each other.
Mahalo I ka mea loa’a, Be thankful for what we have Don’t waste materials, food,
or time. Care for all equipment and materials.
Communication is the key to understanding. We ask that you make a commitment to communicate within your family and with us so we can understand any school or life related issues that may impact the student’s school participation.
Mākua (parent/guardian) should also:
Honor all expectations and commitments mentioned above, except for attending
school
Attend conferences with staff on your child’s progress
Support your child’s daily success by providing needed time, space and supplies
for completing any work (homework) and/or forms sent home.
Provide input and feedback on overall well-being of your child as necessary
Join a committee and/or volunteer with various tasks and kuleana for KOKL
maintenance, operations, and improvements
A family must complete Kōkua Hours (4 hours per quarter for a total 16 hours
per year), Your child’s admission in the following school year is contingent upon
the completion of these hours!

All who choose to become a part of Kua O Ka Lā share a collective vision and mission, and as core members of this learning ‘ohana, I/We, (Students, Parents, KOKL) agree to strive for and participate in the above mentioned items in every way possible, to ensure the success of our school in achieving our personal and collective goals.
