PRESIDENT Kaimi Kaupiko*
Kaimi was born and raised in Miloli`I, South Kona. He helped to start up the Hipu`u site in
Miloli`i.
VICE CHAIR Harald Barkhoff
Harald is a professor of Kinesiology and Department Chair at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo.
SECRETARY Maile Nihipali*
Maile is a highly qualified teacher at KOKL that provides a voice for the teachers at the Board level.
TREASURER Dr. Kelly Roberts
Dr. Roberts was one of the first teachers at Pu`ala`a through programs run through our non-profit
Ho`oulu Lahui. She brought special education children to the campus for programs twice
weekly. She is now working at University of Hawaii at Manoa, Oahu in the Center for Students
with Disabilities
MEMBER Violet Makuakane*
Aunty Violet is our kupuna representative on our Board. She was the pastor of Opihikao Church
where we continue to host our Kindergarten program. She has actively supported Kua O Ka Lā
since our inception.
MEMBER Dr. Marta Wayne-Forero
Dr. Wayne-Ferero is a Stanford graduate and works internationally with non-profit organizations
on grant support and evaluation of community building programs through corporations such as
Hewitt Packard Foundation.
MEMBER Susie Osborne
Susie is the Co-founder of our supporting non-profit, Ho`oulu Lahui founded in 1994. She is the
Co-founder and head of school for Kua O Ka Lā. She has raised all the funds and developed all of
the campus facilities over the past ten years while operating the school.
MEMBER Glen Clavert
Glen was our prior President for KOKL. He is now retired but previously worked as a grant
writer for the ARC of Hilo (Association for Retarded Citizens)
