Aloha mai kakou! My name is Jennifer Johansen. My family is from Oregon and I was raised between there and California. Puna makai has been my home for 29 years. I earned a B.A. in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology from UH Hilo, and an A.S. in Tropical Ecosystem & Agroforestry Management from Hawaii Community College. I’ve been teaching upper elementary at Kua O Ka Lā for two years; prior to this I taught environmental education and worked as a botanical technician. I love working with the ʻāina and exploring the beautiful natural areas of our island home and sharing this with our haumana. I strive to make learning fun, relevant to the real world, and encourage the exploration of thought in an environment of respect and aloha. Mahalo!
