Title: Kumu Waiwai Resource Teacher – Hipu’u Location: Online Email: pilimai@kuaokala.org |
I received my M.A. in Educational Leadership from Chaminade University, B.A. in Aquatic Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Secondary Science and Math Teaching Credentials from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I have been an educator in Hawaiʻi for 35 years, teaching in private, public, and charter schools, and at Hawaiʻi Pacific University, Oceanic Institute.
In 2013, I joined Kua o ka Lā’s Hīpuʻu Virtual Academy in Miloliʻi as a science and math teacher. Teaching in Miloliʻi, I am surrounded by haumāna, who are the keiki of mākua I taught 18 years ago. I love working in Miloliʻi, and I feel honored to teach the next generation of youth living in Hawaiʻi last fishing village. I have always had a pilina with the ocean. The ocean not only provides nourishment and recreation; it is a place that heals me spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. I have spent my life connected with the ocean, studying, learning, voyaging, and continually being amazed by the beauty it holds.
