TSUNAMI
If you hear the Civil Defense siren, feel the ground shake, or you know that a large local earthquake has just occurred, move immediately away from coastal areas to higher ground.
Do not wait for the sirens to sound.
EVACUATION PROCEDURES
- Upon hearing Civil Defense siren, or at the first sign of an earthquake, Kua O Ka La staff will give the signal for emergency assembly. This signal shall consist of a series of three, (3), sharp blasts of the metal whistle assigned to all Kua O Ka La staff members, or a verbal command in the event that a whistle is not available.
- Upon hearing the signal for emergency assembly, Kua O Ka La students and staff shall proceed to the gate fronting the Kua O Ka La office (Assembly Area 1).
- Students shall form two, (2), lines and prepare for headcount by designated staff member.
- KOKL staff shall bring personal vehicles and school van to gate in front of assembly area, and prepare for students boarding.
- Students shall board vehicles in an orderly fashion.
- Drivers shall proceed to “Four Corners” intersection (Assembly Area 2).
- Designated communications person shall call emergency personnel to determine level of emergency and to inform them of our evacuation. Also, a second headcount shall be performed at this time to account for all students and staff.
Upon the issuance of an “all clear” signal by the Hawaii County Civil Defense, or other authorized agency, students and staff shall either: A: Return to Pualaa, Or B: Proceed to Pahoa Recreational Center.
